About Me

My photo

Hey there, I'm Sunny Shell, a wretch saved by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ the Lord. I'm married to the most incredible man on earth, who loves Jesus more than he loves me, and we have two precious adult sons.

The compassionately endures me through my metabolic disease (since 2004) that enables me to be more prayerful and careful about commitments I make and helps me to make the best use of my short time here on earth.

Internet Cafe Devotional - Delight In The LORD

Internet Cafe Devotional - Delight In The LORD
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” ~ Psalm 37:4 (ESV) Don’t you love it when you read something God inspired another brother or sister in Christ to write hundreds or thousands of years ago in which they share the current state of your heart? I sure do! This morning, I was reading Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening and couldn’t help but rejoice in God my Savior as my brother Charles did nearly 200 years ago! Here’s an excerpt of my reading this morning based on Psalm 37:4: “The life of the believer is here described as a delight in God, and we are thus certified of the great fact that true religion overflows with happiness and joy. Ungodly persons and mere professors never look upon religion as a joyful thing; to them it is service, duty, or necessity, but never pleasure or delight. If they attend to religion at all, it is either that they may gain thereby, or else because they dare not do otherwise. The thought of delight in religion

Cafe Chat - God Is Bigger Than Me

Cafe Chat - God Is Bigger Than Me

Kim has given us a great chat topic today at the Cafe: The catchphrase “It’s not about me” has become quite popular in our current world today. What does that phrase mean to you in your personal life? Explain. To begin, I should probably explain that I have the logic (and sometimes behavior) of a five year old. So, with that said, I'll answer our chat topic today and explain what the catch phrase "It's not about me" means to me: To me, it means what it says "IT'S NOT ABOUT ME." I once read this story about a five year old little girl (since that's my level, this story caught my attention), who, while sitting in her car on the way home from church had a question for her mom. The little girl simply asked her mom, with her sweet, innocent and inquisitive little voice: "Mama, today the Pastor said that God is bigger than us." To this, her mother, smiling kindly, responded, "That's right, dear." The little girl continue

Live Well Wednesdays - Gaining Christ

Live Well Wednesdays - Gaining Christ

Recently I've chosen to start fasting for portions of my day. Actually, I guess, it wasn't really MY idea or choice, but God's. Instead of eating every meal (and adding extra meals along the way), I've chosen to spend more time feasting on God's word rather than food. I wish I was disciplined and spiritually mature enough to decide this for myself, but being only a toddler in Christ, God has graciously stricken me for the past week and I feel sick whenever I eat...especially too much. It's like, he's portioned out my plate for me (like I used to do with my kiddos when they were toddlers). It's really GREAT! I haven't gotten on the scale yet, because I'm sure it's only a little difference, so I will get on the scale when my clothes are feeling much looser! Then when I get on the scale, I can get a really big kick out of what number it lands on! What I love about all this happening is that it's really what Live Well is all about! Focusin

WFW - Humble Gratitude

(thank you Meri for taking this beautiful picture for me to use today!) "Then Boaz said to Ruth, 'Now, listen, my daughter, do not go to glean in another field or leave this one, but keep close to my young women. Let your eyes be on the field that they are reaping, and go after them. Have I not charged the young men not to touch you? And when you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink what the young men have drawn.' Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground, and said to him, 'Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?' " ~ Ruth 2:8-10 The Lord recently brought me to this passage again. Yes, like many of us, I've read the book of Ruth about a million times. And a million times, the Lord opens my eyes to truth He desires to reveal to me as I come to feast at His table. As I studied and meditated on what Boaz had done and what Ruth's response was, God asked me, "Would you, dear one, h

Thank You for Your Prayers!

Thank You for Your Prayers!

Dearest sisters in the Lord, Thank you so much for your prayers for me while my sister-in-law was in town this past weekend. Our gracious Lord and God heard your prayers and by the strength of Christ, I was able to stay on the altar and offer myself as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to our God! It was much easier just being me (less to keep up with, that's for sure), than trying to be someone I believed would be worthy of acceptance and friendship. It was much easier for me to be who I am in Christ and not the image I attempted to set up for myself for others to view. Because the Lord heard your prayers for me, we had an amazing weekend that will always remain dear in my heart! Thank you, thank you, thank you from the top, bottom and middle of my heart! Your love and prayers have surely blessed me and I know pleased our God who IS our Father! eternally grateful for all of you,

WFW - "God Is. Therefore All Is Well."

(this picture was taken by my husband during his tour in Iraq 2 years ago) " 'Now therefore why should we die? For this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of the LORD our God any more, we shall die. For who is there of all flesh, that has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of fire as we have, and has still lived? Go near and hear all that the LORD our God will say and speak to us all that the LORD our God will speak to you, and we will hear and do it.' And the LORD heard your words, when you spoke to me. And the LORD said to me, 'I have heard the words of this people, which they have spoken to you. They are right in all that they have spoken. Oh that they had such a mind as this always , to fear Me and to keep all My commandments , that it might go well with them and with their descendants forever!' " ~ Deuteronomy 5:25-29 (emphasis added) My sister-in-law has this fabulous plaque over her kitchen window. It sa

Come Visit Me at The Internet Cafe!

Come Visit Me at The Internet Cafe!

Hello dearest sisters in our Lord Jesus Christ! I just received an email from Lori yesterday, informing me that a devotional I wrote will be posted on the Internet Cafe on: Sunday, August 31, 2008 YAY!!! I don't know if any of you have visited with us at the Cafe, and if not....you MUST come! I know that God will bless you as much (hopefully more) than He's blessed me with the sisters I've met there! Living as a Biblical woman in today's world is increasingly becoming more and more difficult. And when we have other like-minded sisters in Christ standing with us, it just makes our journey here on earth a bit more pleasant. So slow down and smell the roses, the coffee and the fragrance of Christ as sisters come together to take a sip of encouragement as we meditate on the Word of God! Longing to meet with you,

Crawling Off the Altar...Need Your Prayers!

Crawling Off the Altar...Need Your Prayers!

Hello my beautiful sisters, I need your prayers today! My sister-in-law and two of her 4 kiddos are coming to visit today and I'm very tempted to crawl off the altar and live against Romans 12:1 and Ephesians 5:1-2 . I've been continuously praying that I don't build up an idol of me! You know, creating an image of yourself that you want others to see? Have any of you fallen into that trap? If so, then please pray for me, what you'd like prayed for you! And don't worry, I will ABSOLUTELY NOT be insulted if you pray prayers of correction, discipline, refinement, etc. I so need those prayers...or how else will I ever grow? How else will I ever be conformed into the likeness of my Savior if I don't willingly submit to our Father's will and say, "Okay Lord, where do you want me to hold the chisel?" so that He can chip away all that is in me that doesn't resemble His Son? I want so much to just be who I am! I want to be transparent with them, li

Live Well Wednesdays - Who or What Do You Prefer?

Live Well Wednesdays - Who or What Do You Prefer?

Hello again, dear precious sisters of mine! I'm sorry for getting this out so late, but I've been busy doing what Darlene suggested on her post today. I've had wonderful praise and quiet time, shorter than I'd like, but my time with God is His time with me...and His determination of how long it should be, I'm sure, is far better than mine! Since this is my first post for "Live Well", I'd like to begin with why I love it so much. It's because our sister Darlene has based this wonderful weight loss program on Christ and being fully surrendered to Him first ( Matthew 6:33 ). And I'm so grateful to God for her, because this is what I've always been looking for! I know with this weight loss program, I will not only lose the weight necessary to lead a healthy life, honoring to our gracious Father God, but I will keep it off since it's not founded on me and what I prefer to look like so I can feel better about myself. It's all about Ch

Word-Filled Wednesdays: PRESS ON!

Word-Filled Wednesdays: PRESS ON!

I am so thankful for my salvation! I am so grateful to our great Lord and God, Jesus Christ for having compassion on me, yet while I was still a sinner - in enmity with God the Father. In view of God's mercy upon me, I desire to lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and run with endurance the race that is set before me, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of my faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the Cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. ( Hebrews 12:1-2 ) Will you join me today and follow hard after Christ Jesus our Lord? Get on your mark. Get set. GO!!! Don't forget to make your way over to the 160 Acre Woods for more encouragements in God's Word today! Forever His, and forever grateful!

Humbled by God's Election

Humbled by God's Election

Beloved sisters in our Lord Jesus Christ, I come to you today in great humility and gratitude as I consider the Cross. During my quiet time this morning with our great and awesome God, I couldn't help but be baffled and utterly grateful for His choosing me, as it is written: "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He may give it to you." ~ John 15:16 "If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." ~ John 15:19 (emphasis added) With sober eyes, I see myself. I see myself as I am without Christ. I am an arrogant and prideful woman who presumes I am qualified to sit in the seat of the Judge and speak condemnations or praise for those I deem worthy or not. How often my prideful heart, so easily deceived gives

Evangelical Marriage Movie - Great Combination!

Evangelical Marriage Movie - Great Combination!

Fire Proof is a the latest movie produced by Sherwood Pictures, a ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, GA. Their first two movies were: Flywheel and Facing the Giants . Our family has seen and love the first two movies! We've even bought the DVD's so we can watch them over and over and over again. :-) Our family has also had the privilege of meeting the humble and God-honoring, God-fearing producers, writers and some of the actors (who are all church members) of the first two movies. The Kendrick brothers are both pastors at Sherwood Baptist Church and use their God-given gifts and talents for script writing and movie making to bring the greatest glory and honor to God! How refreshing! And what a miracle to find such a major motion picture in today's theaters! Only by God's grace was all this done and we are so grateful!!! Please watch the trailer I have of the movie Fire Proof at the top of my blog. I also included the code so you can put it on your websit

In Sorrow & Grief, Still Comes Rejoicing & Praise

In Sorrow & Grief, Still Comes Rejoicing & Praise

Good morning dear sisters in the Lord! I had planned on writing a very different kind of post today. I had intended to write a post regarding a tip on how to live out Proverbs 31:12 with "How to Have a Simplified, Effective and Orderly Day" . A dear friend of mine gave this to me a couple of years ago and I was going to pass this on to all of you. Which I still intend to do....but not today. Today is not a day for that. It is a day of sorrow and grief for me, my family and my entire church family. You see, I just received news that a dear, young, sweet daughter of God, who was only 20 years old and just graduated from college last year, has gone Home to be with our awesome, righteous and good Heavenly Father. She is the oldest of seven children. Why did I say "is" and not "was"? Because my darling husband reminded me, she still is...just not with us....she still is....now with the Great I Am. The way we see it, her parents still have seven children. T

WFW - Wisdom from God

WFW - Wisdom from God

Welcome to Word-Filled Wednesdays! Amydeanne hosts this at 160 Acre Woods . Please visit her site to see others who've shared a Word from the Lord today to encourage you, bless you and exhort you to seek hard after our Heavenly Father! When I think I'm so smart and so spiritual, I know that's when I need to stop in my tracks and consider James 3:17-18. Wisdom from God is not the kind that tells another person "Sit down, shut up and listen to me because I'm more spiritually mature than you." According to James 3:14-15 although this kind of "wisdom" is spiritual, it's not from God, it's from the devil. YIKES! James 3:17-18 helps me to remember that my love needs to be genuine - that is, holding the other person's interest genuinely above my own before I ever counsel anyone. Not according to what I feel they need, but through prayer and by the power of the Holy Spirit, according to what God says they need. May you be blessed today as yo

Visions without Fearing God - Scary!

Visions without Fearing God - Scary!

Today, "At the Well", we're discussing Having a Family Vision . Do you have a vision for your family? If so, share it with us. If not, what do you think it would be? Our family shares the same belief in the Scripture Natalie used on her blog: "Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint [or the people are discouraged]," ~ Proverbs 29:18 (ESV) It is true, without a specific goal, a specific plan, a specific vision, we all tend to "cast off restraint" and give into our sin natures or old sin patterns. And the natural affect of that is discouragement, as we find that we are so disappointed with ourselves for allowing this to happen one more time. It's the same old story. We begin with the best intentions, with a God-honoring goal in mind, but because we're not careful to put our attentions to how we reach our goal, and not just that we reach our goal, we find that disaster and sometimes pain come from our lack of str

One Pure and Holy Passion - Worship In Song

May all the daughters of the Most High God, rise up today to worship our Father God, through Jesus Christ, in spirit and in truth! I pray that this song of praise blesses you and sets your hearts soaring into the arms of our compassionate God as it did mine! Bless you dear sisters! With great love in Jesus Christ,
