Do you know what will happen to you when you die? Do you know where you're going?

Are you 100% sure of your eternity?

Many will say on that day...
"I had many good works, diligently showed kindness to others, faithfully attended and volunteered at church, gave money to the needy and besides all this, I'm secure of my eternity because I prayed a prayer one day."

But God says it's wise for every person to test yourself by His word (rather than yours or others) and see if you truly possess the faith that saves.

Jesus warns that on the Day of Judgement there will be many who will be totally surprised and devastated when they hear Him say, "I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness." (Matt 7:23)

God, who alone owns Heaven, assures us the only way to Him, is through faith in His Son, Jesus the Christ.

"He [Peter] was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.' "
~Matthew 17:5

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' "
~John 14:6

"And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
~Acts 4:12

The hard and sober truth about mankind...
There's no amount of "good works", praying, volunteering, giving or attending church you can do that will save your soul from God's just and righteous wrath that's poured out on all who have not been washed by the blood of Christ and sanctified by His Holy Spirit through faith and obedience in Christ Jesus the Lord.

Basically, God is perfect and Heaven is perfect; therefore all who enter must be made perfect as well. Make sense?

If God allowed all of us to enter Heaven just the way we are, Heaven would cease to be Heaven and would just be another earth full of liars, thieves, murderers, idolaters, revilers, sexual immoral, self-centered, prideful and foolish people. I could go on, but you get the picture.

The glorious Person of Jesus Christ...
Jesus is God made man. He was divinely born of a virgin, lived a sinless and perfect life (that is, He perfectly kept all the commandments of God the Father and though tempted in the desert for 40 days and nights by the devil, Jesus never sinned). After living 33 years in complete sinlessness, Christ willingly gave up His life to bear the sins of the world and was crucified on the Cross at Calvary.

You see, because God is just, He must punish evil. But because God is also the justifier, He gave Himself, in the form of His Son as a propitiation for the sins we all committed against Him (Rom 3:25-26, 6:23).

Our justice system is much the same. When someone breaks the law, they're required to pay for their crime either monetarily, through public service or time in prison. If the judge is not corrupt, no matter how "good" someone has become or promises to be when they're before the court, the judge must require a penalty equal to the crime if the lawbreaker is to be set free.

We've all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. We've all lied, cheated, stolen, gossiped, slandered, hated (which God considers murder), along with a host of many other sins. We've all broken God's holy laws of life, therefore it is good, right and just that He demand full payment for our crimes. Unfortunately for us, the penalty that's equal to our crimes against a holy God is suffering His just wrath and being cast into the lake of fire (Hell) for all eternity.

And now for the good news...
"For the LORD will not cast off forever, but, though He cause grief, He will have compassion according to the abundance of His steadfast love; for He does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men."
~ Lamentations 3:33

Because God is love it brings God no pleasure to cast people into Hell. So He provided a way...just ONE WAY to be cleansed from the filth of our sins and be made righteous before His sight...He gave us Jesus, His One and Only Son. Christ is God incarnate (that is, God in human form). When Jesus was here, He was 100% God and 100% man. And there is none like Him. Nor will there ever be.

You see, it's not about your personal opinion or professions, or the opinions or professions about others that have the power to save your soul from God's wrath, it's only God who can save you from Him because there is none greater than Him, nor anyone equal to Him. He is the Almighty.

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, 'The righteous shall live by faith.'
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse."
~Romans 1:16-20

With great love, compassion, grace, mercy and patience, more than 2,000 years ago, God sent His Son, Jesus the Christ, to live the life no other person could ever live; a life of true righteousness before the sight of a holy and perfect God. Though tempted in every way, Jesus never sinned and that is why He alone is qualified to be the perfect atonement for our sins (Heb 4:15-16; 2 Cor 5:21).

Jesus left His glory in Heaven where He was perfectly adored, honored and obeyed to come to earth filled with evil people who spit in His face, mocked, beat and crucified Him—but not without His permission to do so (John 10:18).

By Jesus' gracious sacrifice, our sins were cast on Him, but that wasn't the end of the story. If it were, we'd all be left without hope.

On the Third Day, Christ was resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit and appeared to the apostles and more than 500 other believers. He remained on earth for 40 days after His Resurrection so He could prepare His disciples for what was to come. After 40 days, He ascended into Heaven on a cloud before commanding His disciples to share the Good News to their families, friends, neighbors and to all the world, teaching all who believe to obey everything He has commanded them (Matt 28:19-20).

Free at last!
Because God allowed Jesus to give His life in order to save our souls from death in Hell. Those who repent (that is, honestly confess your sins and turn away from them and turn towards God) through faith in Christ, trusting Him alone with your life, God will see your debt to Him as paid in full by the blood of His Son and He will credit to you, the perfect life Christ lived, which is His righteousness.

No longer will God look upon you and see sin, but He will look upon you and see the blood of His Son who has cleansed you and set you free.

For all who believe, we are now free to live a good life. We are no longer enslaved to sin! We no longer have to succumb to the temptations of this world! We have been set free in Christ to finally obey God, do good and find pleasure in love, joy and peace!

"And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him."
~Hebrews 11:6

"for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world"
~Philippians 2:13-15

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
~Ephesians 2:8-10

If you've received the free gift of God's grace through repentance and faith in Christ the Lord, Hallelujah! I rejoice with you, along with angels in Heaven!

If you're at a lost on what to do next, you can email me (I'd love to hear from you) and/or click this link: Save Yourself Some Pain.

May the Lord's grace and peace be multiplied to you as you live abandoned to Christ.

The love that we’re all looking for, can only be found in the Person of Jesus Christ (John 15:13).

Regardless of your religious affiliations or spiritual inclinations, the Creator God, made every human being in His image, and put the desire to love and be loved into every heart. That’s why we all seek it so desperately and some are left utterly despondent when they can’t find it.

Everyone needs and wants the forever, unconditional, faithful, and exclusive love that only seeks the benefit of the object of its love, with no thought to how it will effect the giver. This is agape love; the love of God.

This exclusive love that everyone desires is known solely by Christians, because we know God—who is love (1 John 4:8). It’s only logical to conclude that if God Himself is the very definition of love, then without Him, love is left undefined, therefore unattainable. While we may have some warm feelings, affections, passions and attachments to one another, none of these will ever fully satisfy, because the very nature of love is not in it: the nature of God.

So where’s the love? If our country is saturated with Christians who alone know and possess the love of God, then why isn't it obvious? There’s two major reasons: not everyone who claims to be a Christian is, and those who truly are, don’t always behave as such.

“ ‘And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
~Mark 12:30-31

Between the false converts and self-centered true converts of Christianity, it’s difficult for the world to recognize God’s love. The solution? First, our local churches need to stop catering to the world and making services look more like a visit to Disneyland than the Holy land. And here in the south, we're called the "Bible Belt", but there's no Bible in this belt. It's full of bling with little resemblance of the King. We've merely become an accessory. Second, true Christians need to stop all the infighting, jealousy and self-promoting and start knowing God more so we can love Him and others better.

Jesus said, the world will know we’re His disciples by our love for one another (John 13:34-35). But they don’t, because we don’t. The Church has grown cold, near-sighted and ungrateful. We expect more and thank less. We've forgotten what a gift it is to give to others, or to receive a cup of cold water as the great gift that it is. We take too much for granted, think too much of ourselves and too little of Christ and others.

How can we go out into all the world and share the ultimate expression of God’s love: the Gospel, if we don’t faithfully practice loving one another?

May God our Father direct your hearts in His love and in the steadfastness of Christ our Lord (2 Thess 3:5).

My wonderful and wise husband posted this on our family's Facebook ministry page yesterday and I was so encouraged by it, I wanted to share what it with all of you.

Read. Listen. Be blessed.

"Commit your way to the LORD, trust in him, and he will act"
~Psalm 37:5

This verse stands in stark contrast to a popular phrase in the church today, "Let go and let God". We usually hear this phrase related to a difficult trial we may be going through, even our struggle to die to ourselves, our sinful desires. Just stop worrying about it and let God take care of everything...so the thinking goes.

In his book, The Discipline of Grace, Jerry Bridges writes, "There's no question that we are responsible to pursue holiness with all the intensity the word pursue implies. Every moral imperative in the Bible addresses itself to our responsibility to discipline ourselves unto godliness. We aren't just to 'turn it all over to the Lord' and let Him live His life through us. Rather, we're to love one another, to put to death the misdeeds of the body, and to put off the old man and put on the new man".

One of the greatest Christian thinkers in our lifetime is J.I. Packer. If you find something he wrote (there's a lot), you should read it. But here's what he has to say about "Let Go and Let God", how it almost ruined his life, and what he's learned about it all through his journey in life.

Yesterday we got to closely examine the first two verses of Romans 12:9-13. This amazing passage is filled with so much of God's goodness, trying to discuss it in one article is like trying to drink out of a fire hydrant—though you're thirst will be quenched, much of the rich nourishment will be wasted.

Since a meal is best enjoyed when it can be savored, not when it's being shoved down your throat, we'll continue to take our time and cover only verse 11 today.

"Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality."
~Romans 12:9-13 (ESV)

Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit [or Spirit], serve the Lord. I love how God uses two totally opposing words together, in the beginning of this sentence: slothful and zeal.

Slothful (adj.): sluggardly; indolent; lazy.

Zeal (noun): fervor for a person, cause, or object; eager desire or endeavor; enthusiastic diligence; ardor.

God is basically saying, "Don't be lazy in being eager to live in step with, and by His Holy Spirit" (Gal 5:25). What an incredible way to make a strong and sobering point. We, in our depraved thinking can actually be lazy in doing good, lazy in being enthusiastic, lazy and indifferent to living with purpose, but mostly, lazy in showing genuine love to God and others. It sounds awful to be like that, but if we're  honest with ourselves (me, included), we've all done that or are still in the midst of being deceived by this lie: Just surround yourself with religious people, religious talk and religious activity, and this will make up for neglecting to feed your soul by daily studying, meditating and personally applying God's word to your life.

It is a sin for any Christian to neglect this commandment (Jn 1:14, 6:27; Matt 26:26) from Christ. Constantly renewing our minds with God's word is essential for our hearts to be transformed so that our lives will reflect the agape love and the glorious power of Jesus Christ (Gal 2:20). Without this vital Christian discipline, our lives will look exactly like unbelievers, except with a few vain,  "religious" activities added to it.

So, you go to church regularly, you sing in the choir and/or volunteer in multiple ministries within your church, you attend or participate some how in every event at your church and you even homeschool or private school your children, and perhaps you extend your "service" outside of your church walls to the homeless in your community or to shut-ins, or regularly involve yourself in other such "noble" causes.

Do not be deceived into believing that all your religious acts please the Almighty because unlike the rest of the world, He is not fooled by meaningless, external activity; He is moved by hearts that are humble and demonstrate genuine love towards Him, and others (which is the greatest commandment).

"For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward Him...All these things My hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the LORD. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at My word."
~2 Chron 16:9a; Is 66:2
In verse 11 of this beautiful passage, we are commanded by our Creator God to live as He has purposed us to live: to pursue love, peace and righteousness (Rom 14:19; 2 Tim 2:22); to chase hard after Him; to live for a single purpose—the pleasure and glory of Christ the Lord. Essentially, we need to expend every breath God grants us to know Him more so we can love Him better...and better and better and better.

So, if you're a true child of God, you'll listen to what the Almighty Himself says:
"If anyone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother [or sister in Christ], he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him: whoever loves God must also love his brother."
~1 John 4:20-21
We either trust, believe and live off of every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord (Deut 8:3; Matt 4:4) or we trust, believe and live off of every thought and lofty opinion that we've crafted in our own minds ( Prov 18:2; 2 Cor 10:4-5).

No one can simultaneously live by God's perfect commandments and by their personal affinities. So, test yourselves and see if you have the genuine love God defines in Romans 12:9-11. Then join me again for Part 3 as we examine and learn to apply verse 12 to our lives in practical and meaningful ways.

Please join me as I continue Part 3 of this three part series on Christian love.

What is "genuine Christian love"? Let's see how God defines it.

Jesus said that it is by our love for one another that the world will know that we are His disciples (Jn 13:34-35). The Lord did not say, it is by our theology, doctrine, knowledge, memorization of Scripture, our "service" or ideas of what holy living is, that will be the evidence to the world that we are, in fact, His disciples, He said, it is by our love for one another...just as He has loved us.

Let's break down each verse and examine our own hearts in the light of God's holy word so that we might quicken our spirits to the leading and teaching of the Holy Spirit.

Verse 9: Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Jesus defines genuine love to be His love—agape love. Love that neither seeks nor even considers self, but only seeks and considers God and His will for everyone. Humility and sacrificial living are consistently evident in genuine love. And in this pure love from, and of God, a Christian would supernaturally hate all that is evil (as God defines evil) and hold tightly to all that is good, e.g., hate a lying tongue, hate flattery, hate the murdering of the innocent (as in abortion), hate gossip, hate any kind of dissension (especially within the Family of God); love the truth even when it hurts, love those who speak  God's truth to you, love discipline, love justice and mercy (not to seek it for yourselves, but to give to others)...essentially, love all that God says He loves and hate all that God says He hates. And you can only discover this by daily being in His word and praying that He will daily manifest the life of Christ in your life (Gal 2:20; Heb 5:14).

Verse 10: Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. One of the best exegesis of this verse, is the one I heard from Pastor and Teacher, John MacArthur. Here's an excerpt from his sermon series (in 1984) entitled, "Brick by Brick":

"it's marvelous that he uses it here because he says in the Christian family we ought to have...the warm affection of love. So we ought to be marked by a natural love that we share with all believers, and I think you've experienced that. I know I have many, many times. I can go into an environment where I do not know anyone and if they love the Lord Jesus Christ, it doesn't take very long for us to have a very unique sense of love. There is a common bond that stretches beyond culture and time and place and events and circumstances and even though we have no history and no knowledge of commonness in terms of lifestyle or likes or dislikes, there is an immediate sense of affection with one who belongs to the family of God. Have you felt that? Sure you have. And that is to be an affectionate demonstrative kind of love. We are to have love for those within the family. And again I say, it is not a love built on attraction, it is a love that is given to anyone who belongs to the same Savior, the same Lord, the same Father.

It is not just a theological love, it is an affection, a tender, kind, caring, concerned affection. The pure love of those who belong to Jesus Christ, it's what John talks about in 1 John 5 in that very lovely statement that he makes, 'Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God and every one that loves him that begot loves him also that is begotten of Him.' A marvelous statement.

If you love God, you love those who belong to Him. And there is a warm affection for brothers and sisters in Christ. And that's why in Ephesians Paul says, 'Be ye tender hearted, forgiving one another even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you.' We are to be identified as those who love."

~Brick by Brick (Part 2) by Pastor John MacAruthur
Full article originally appeared here at Grace to You

The second part of verse 10 is that we are commanded to compete with one another...but in what? In showing off our talents, knowledge or anything we deem valuable? By all means "No". We are commanded by God to outdo one another in showing honor to others, rather seeking to be honored.

What does that look like in a real-life? Well, it might look something like this: you just got a piece of your work highlighted in a public medium, where your name is mentioned and character honored. Naturally you are excited, and supernaturally, you are humbled. So first, you give thanks to God for allowing the gifts He's given you, to be used to edify and encourage others, then you pray and seek to bring honor to someone else, rather than announce to everyone you know and don't know, that this great honor has been given to you. It's a test. Will you pass it (Prov 27:2)?

There's so much good stuff in this passage to really sink your teeth into and chew on, I'm going to stop here for today to allow these two verses to really marinate in your soul.

Allow the genuineness of God's love that He has worked in you, be evident in your daily life.

"And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ...Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure."
~Philippians 1:6, 2:12-13 (ESV)

71 years ago today, the Japanese executed their surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. As many reflect of the events of that day, let us also reflect on some of the personal lives that were affected by World War II.

From Pearl Harbor to Calvary is about the incredible, transforming life of Jesus Christ, manifested in Captain Mitsuo Fuchida who eagerly served in the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during World War II. Prior to his salvation Fuchida led three successful air attacks: Pear Harbor on December 7, 1941; Darwin, Australia on February 19, 1942 and against the Royal Navy in British Ceylon (presently Sri Lanka) on April 5, 1942.

After the war, Fuchida entered civilian life as a very dissatisfied farmer after being a decorated and highly honored soldier. He began to wonder why he survived so many calamities while thousands around him died. Slowly his thoughts came to something he’d never considered: A Creator God. During this time of deep contemplation about life, Fuchida was summoned by General Douglas MacArthur to testify at the war crimes trials in Tokyo. One day, as he was getting off the train, he accepted a tract from an American. The tract was entitled, “I Was a Prisoner of Japan.” It was the salvation testimony of Sargent Jacob “Jake” Daniel DeShazer, a member of the Doolittle Raid, and a prisoner of Japan in Nanking, China for 40 months.

In this tract, Fuchida read that DeShazer was brutally mistreated by the Japanese officials and initially, he hated them for it. But after 25 months in prison, and multiple requests for reading material, the Japanese acquiesced and gave the American prisoners Bibles. They were told they could keep them for only three weeks so DeShazer read the Bible with great fervency and passion. After reading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, DeShazer repented of his sins and received God’s free gift of eternal salvation through Jesus Christ and committed his life to sharing the Gospel with those who were once his enemies -- the Japanese.

Intrigued and baffled by such love, forgiveness and peace, Fuchida decided to purchase a Bible for himself. Just like DeShazer, Fuchida read it with fervency and passion. When he came to Luke 23:34 and read, “And Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’” he finally understood how true peace could be obtained. On September 14, 1950, Fuchida became a new creation in Christ, after realizing he too, was one of those that Christ came to save, he asked the Lord for forgiveness (repented of his sins) and gave everything he had to his new Captain, Jesus Christ the Lord, who called him to be a minister of the Gospel of Peace, rather than a man of war.

Fuchida spent the next 26 years of his life as an evangelist.

Don’t miss out! And be sure to pass on this blessing to others.

Hello friends,

Guess what? Ray Comfort and the Living Waters staff have created another inspiring movie that will cause you to examine your hearts (2 Cor 13:5), and exhort you to be holy as the Lord our God is holy (1 Peter 1:15-16).

"Genius" gives insight into the life of John Lennon, and according to Ken Mansfield (the ex-U.S. Apple manager for the Beatles) "[It] will open your eyes." Reviewers of the pre-release are giving it two thumbs up. Best-selling author, Randy Alcorn, said it is "Fast-paced, thought-provoking and compelling." World Net Daily's Joseph Farah responded with, "You have outdone yourself!" while Ted Baehr of Movieguide called it "An entertaining and challenging insight…watch and wonder."

Ray Comfort said he was amazed to discover that the Beatles aren't simply a rock group from a by-gone era, but that they are appealing to a new generation. "They have sold more than 2,303,500,000 record albums, and in June of 2012 they hit number one on iTunes." Many believe that John Lennon was a musical genius, "But" Ray noted, " 'Genius' goes deeper than just looking at the brilliance of the murdered singer. It reveals the chilling reality that we are surrounded by people who would kill for money."

It’s ironic that during this time of year, Thanksgiving and Christmas—a time that should generate hearts filled with gratitude and joy, often bring the opposite; hearts filled with envy, covetousness, bitterness, clamor, slander, gossip and hostility. And all this, by way of our in-laws (or outlaws) that many of us only see during this time of year.

In the beginning of every marriage, everyone is usually on their best behavior, but as time goes by, “familiarity breeds contempt”. This is not only true within relationships, but it happens with special occasions that were meant to stir a person’s heart toward humility and gratitude; two things that are much needed, yet extremely lacking in our world today.

We all have in-laws and some of us have outlaws for relatives. And, if we’re honest, some of us are the outlaws. You know, the ones who breed quarrels, who incite jealousy and gossip among our family members. Some of us are the ones who never have anything nice to say about anyone...except ourselves. We’ll even go as far as feigning or creating injuries so all attention is on us, rather than on God or others.

Then there are those who love Christ with all their hearts, souls, minds and strength and regardless of what they say or do, or don’t say or do, they are maligned, rejected and falsely accused of much evil; all because of their good conduct in Christ (1 Peter 2:19-23, 3:14-17). Oddly enough, they’re often considered the outlaws, because they choose to love with God’s truth and not with a flattery, lying tongue that might make people feel good, but does nothing to help them be good.

This unrest and strife can strain a marriage. So what’s a person to do? Well, you can’t change those around you, but you can have your hearts transformed and minds renewed by the word of God. So whether you are the in-laws or the outlaws at your family’s Thanksgiving gathering, choose wisely how you will spend this time God has given you: pleasing others, pleasing yourself or pleasing God (Galatians 1:10).

And if there are any grievances that need to be forgiven; forgive, just as you've been forgiven by God in Christ Jesus. And if you have anything you need to repent of, then repent. Let go of your pride and false piety and live at peace with your family...as much as it is up to you (Rom 12:9-11, 16-19).

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
