It continues to amaze me at how our awesome God works in our children's hearts....especially teenagers! :-)

The Bible says as the world gets older and the longer we're all here, the more sinful the world will become. I don't think there is anyone, believers or non-believers that wouldn't agree with that statement. We can all clearly see how wickedness has increased, in the form of incessant lying, lack of personal responsibility or repentance, self-absorption, self-glorification, sexual immorality, abortion, and so much more than I think I can list.

In the midst of all this, as much as we'd LOVE to homeschool our boys or send them to a private Christian school, we cannot, since God has clearly told us to send our boys to public school. As parents, this is very difficult as I'm sure we all want our children to be in a warm, loving and Christ-exalting environment. But God is God and we are not and we fully trust His direction in our lives, regardless of what we'd prefer and how much our heart breaks over things our sons' share with us as they pour out their hearts to us from each days struggles.

My husband and I both attended public school as well, and found it very difficult for a Christian to be in that kind of environment with constant, and blatant temptation, rampant all throughout the school. We wanted "better" for our kids and God has chosen what is better; in His sight, which is perfect.

Out of all the things we truly hate that our sons have to endure in a public school environment, this one, bright shining light of hope, keeps us going. The hope that God is using them as His light: to bring comfort to the poor and needy, to preach the Gospel and share the love of Christ; to be a friend to the friendless, and to draw us closer as a family.

You see, because our children attend public school, both my husband and I spend every time we can find to help them drink more deeply into the Well of Life, our Lord Jesus Christ. We've taught them since they were two to have praise and quiet time and seek God's face before seeking anyone or anything else. We have breakfast devotionals every morning and give them Scripture to help them throughout they day by purchasing them pocket-sized Bibles to have at school with them (and we started this when they first attended school at age 5). After school, I don't answer my phone or get on it, in order to give both sons my undivided attention to share all that is on their hearts. We eat dinner together and share our struggles as well as victories in Christ, and if there is time, then we read together so we can all be edified, or we snuggle and watch a movie about other Christians who have struggled with sin, and triumphed in the name of Jesus.

A few days ago my oldest son, Michael, who will be 16 next week, sat down and penned the poem below. I asked if it was alright to share this with all of you and he said that it was glad to share it. One thing we've tried to teach our sons is never to live in the deception that Christians are sinless, but that we do strive to sin less. My son is allowing me to share this with you, in the hope that it will exhort you, your children or anyone you know, to press on....press on toward the goal God has called each of us, Heavenward, in Christ Jesus. No matter the cost, no matter the struggle, we must all desire greatly to mortify all that is within us that sets itself up against our awesome and glorious God.

Personally, I'm very proud of my boys! And I'm thankful for how God has protected, provided and taught them throughout their lives.

I'll be sure to pass along any encouragements the Lord leads you to share with him.

That Thing Called Sin

There’s somethin’ in my life that just keeps naggin’,
It takes shape whenever I start braggin’.
I can’t get rid of it, no matter how hard I try,
It rears its ugly head even when I tell a simple lie.
That thing called sin.

I hate it so much; I just want it to go away,
But that’s not gonna happen, it’s here to stay.
In this life, at least, I will struggle with it,
It will continue to drag me down, into a pit.
That thing called hate.

Why won’t it leave me alone, what’s the point?
I feel like it’s controlling every joint.
Is there a way out? Is there hope?
Or am I left to myself, just to mope?
That thing called depression.

There’s only one thing to do, one resolve,
It’s too big a problem for me to solve.
There is a Man, who can carry this burden,
He loves me so much, even though I hurt Him.
That thing called remorse.

His name is powerful, oh yes, it’s Jesus,
He is the Son of God, sent to save us.
I know what to do now, only this,
Give up my life of mere happiness.
That thing called hope.

Only Christ can do it, He’s the one,
I give up myself, I’m completely done.
With this burden lifted, and this wrong made right.
I can finally receive Eternal Life.
That thing called love.

I am free now, and belong to Christ,
I will stay with Him for the rest of my life.
I’m through with filthy, dirty me,
The stench so strong I could hardly breathe.

Through Jesus Christ alone can I win,
Over this thing…called sin.
I'm praying about some different things I have on my heart and thoughts that have popped into my head to do with this blog. I want so much to encourage all of you as you hunger and thirst after the only One who can truly satisfy you - the Lord Jesus Christ. But before I do anything, I am in much prayer about this and would appreciate your prayers as well.

I want everything I have and everything I do to represent Christ and Christ alone. I want nothing more than for the brilliance of His beauty to emanate through all He has given me. And I want to honor the "mission" He's given me for my life; which is the same mission for this blog.

So while I'm in this time of prayer, I thought it would be good to share a couple of personal journal entries with you, as this is the direction I am sensing the Lord leading me with regards to this blog. I know He wants me to get more personal, but what I don't know yet is how that will look and how it will all play out.

To live a day without God,
To live a day without prayer,
Is truly a day not lived at all,
A day that 's meaningless and bare.

To live a day in God's will,
To live a day wrapped in prayer,
Is a day filled with miracles,
A day spent in God's merciful care.

Thank You Father for Your love! Thank You for Jesus. Thank You for teaching all of us, caring for us and disciplining us. I love You Father. I lift up my thoughts and prayers in the holy name of Christ Jesus. Amen.

I wrote the following entry after I read what Jesus said in John 15:10-11. In this passage, Jesus explains to us what His delight; His joy is - to keep the commandments of our Father God. And He shares how His desire is for us to have this same joy, this same delight. I then read Psalm 37:4 to confirm that Jesus' joy came from complete and total obedience to God the Father out of love and not out of duty. Then I came upon Psalm 40:8 which brought the first two passages together, as I continued to search God's word to help me live in the joy, the delight of my Master and Lord, Jesus the Christ.

As I read God's word, I was very disappointed to find out that my delight was not in obedience, but only in receiving blessings. From my broken heart, I wrote the following entry:

October 8, 2000

So Father, when do I "delight" to do Your will? It seems it is only when Your will is easy for me. But when You challenge me, when You grow me, I feel stumped. I lose my footing and become totally unfocused. Why? Why does this happen to me?

Because I do not lean on Your understanding and Your ways, but my own, I become discouraged and confused; frustrated and floundering.

But You Father, my God Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth, You alone, make my paths straight. Teach me, lead me, make me the woman You have planned for me to be. Let me put off my old ways. Let me not dam up the stream of Your Living Water. Let me have no walls, obstacles or stumbling blocks that might impede the work You have set before me.

I want to "delight" in pleasing You. I want all my joy to be set on You. I want You to be the sole foundation, sole purpose of my being. I want every part of me, to be of You...and You alone.

Praise be to You Father. Oh sweet Abba Father in Heaven! Praise Your holy Name! Thank You for Jesus!

And what about you? Have you every only delighted in God when you were blessed and not when He challenged you to grow in your faith? What is your hearts cry to God right now? How do you want to live each day? And what do you want your days to be filled with?

I pray that somehow, God will use this to bless, encourage, and exhort you to be all that only Christ can form within you.

This is a music video of Casting Crowns' song, While You Were Sleeping. It is only five minutes long. Please take the time to listen, with an open heart and open hands to receive all that God chooses to give you.

"For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, 'Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise answered, saying, 'Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.' And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open to us.' But he answered, 'Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.' "
~ Matthew 25:3-13
(emphasis added)

May we be led into repentance as we encourage others to do the same. And should our Bridegroom return soon, may He not find any of us "sleeping", but awake and alert; always prepared to do His will1 and offer to Him, our abandoned love.

"Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
~ Matthew 26:41

"Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?"
~ Luke 18:8(b)

And what about you dear brothers and sisters? Will you watch for our Lord Jesus Christ with me? Will you commit to pray for yourselves and for others to abide in Christ alone? When He comes, will He find us faithful? I pray that He does.

Footnotes:

1. Ephesians 2:10, Matthew 7:15-16 & 19-20

Regardless of who you voted for, as Christians we have the privilege to honor our Lord God, not only with our lips, but with our abandoned hearts, to pray for our new President God raised up - and allowed to take office.

"Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might.
He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings;
He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;
He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with Him."
~ Daniel 2:20-22

God's word does not return to Him void, but surely accomplishes the purpose in which He sent it. And we trust in the LORD God Almighty; not in personal comforts, fears, anger, disappointment or the opinions of men.

But in all things, as children of the Most High God, we are confident, no matter our circumstances, for our lives are not held by the decisions of mere men, but only by the good and sovereign will of the Lord of Hosts.

"Arise, O LORD! Let not man prevail; let the nations be judged before You!
Put them in fear, O LORD!
Let the nations know that they are but men!"
~ Psalm 9:19-20
(emphasis added)

Therefore, we ought to restrain ourselves from slander or any other form of malice regarding our new President, Barak Obama. And we must commit to pray for him. Pray for the salvation and protection of him and his entire family. Pray for God to give him wisdom to lead this great nation. And pray that every believer in Christ, take more seriously and appreciate more deeply the freedoms we have to worship our King Jesus.

Remember dear brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus, why we are here. We are visitors, sojourners; not permanent citizens of this world. We are not here to become so passionate about all that is temporary. But instead, we are to strive for that which is eternal - salvation in Christ Jesus; and sharing our hope in Him with the world.

With this in mind, will you join me in prayer for our new President and not against him?
