Glee, Twilght, Potter...oh my!

Oh my, oh my, oh my... indeed!

What happened to "be holy, for I am holy." What happened to light not having anything to do with darkness? What happened to living as a new creation of God, in the Spirit of Christ and not as the old creature who lived enslaved by his/her own passions and lusts?

What happened to living in this world yet not of it? What happened to being distinguished as children of the Most High God, rather than blending with the rest of the world?

What happened to watching or listening to things that build up our faith, things that are innocent, pure and good; things that do not defile our minds with sordid images and our hearts with lyrics that only praise and promote self love?

What happened to biblical Christianity?

"Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, You shall be holy, for I am holy. And if you call on Him as Father who judges impartially according to each one's deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot."
~1 Peter 1:13-19

I am disheartened by the volumes of professing Christians who watch, promote and quote shows/movies like Glee, Twilight and Harry Potter as well as listen to people like unLady Gaga (thanks Allison for the accurately renaming this sexually immoral and disturbingly lost and hedonistic girl).

Are there other options? Sure there are! Plenty! But instead of looking into God's word, reading it as if it were our spiritual food (because it is) and meditating on it day and night, we spend our days and nights polluting our hearts and minds with the dung of this world. If we obeyed God, if we lived as if we believe and trust Him, how much more will we be satisfied in Christ and the awesome freedom we've been given to live in God's grace? If we did this, if all those who professed to know and love Christ, spent as much time reading God's word and seeking His counsel, rather than defiling our hearts and minds with the wicked and dark things of this world, the distinction between the children of the devil and the children of God would be clear -- as it should be.

"Jesus said to them, 'If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear My word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires."
~John 8:42-44a

God clearly states in His word that His children are to be holy; that we ought not slander, gossip, dress immodestly, allow sexually immoral thoughts creep into our minds and hearts by what we watch or hear. Our Father God commands His children to keep ourselves, mind, body and soul, exclusively for Him and for His glory and not for our own pleasures and desires that don't align with His word.
"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body...Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do what I tell you?"
~1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Luke 6:46

Beloved brothers and sisters in the Lord, before you choose any type of media entertainment, consider our Lord Jesus, consider your children, consider your testimony, consider those who are weaker in faith who may stumble due to your lack of restraint.

A valuable resource our family has used for years is Plugged In Online, a ministry of James Dobson's Focus on the Family. Even our oldest son, who is now 18 and a senior in high school has this link bookmarked on his profile so he can read the reviews for movies, music, games, etc. prior to exposing himself to anything that would dishonor God and defile his mind and heart. The unique thing about Plugged In Online is that they include in their reviews whether or not there is any vulgar language, blasphemy and sexual immorality in movies, TV shows, games, etc. This is really a wonderful resource for any Christian who wants to keep God's holy temple pure.
